Dr. Costa and Dr.Waxman's Family Dentistry

Joseph W. Costa, Jr., DMD, MAGD earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree cum laude in a special field from the Harvard University School of Dental Medicine in 1991. He is a Master of the Academy of General Dentistry (MAGD), the highest honor bestowed by that organization. Dr. Costa is also a 1986 graduate of Boston College, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry. Dr. Costa has received extensive training at the prestigious Spear Education Center in Scottsdale, AZ and the Dawso...Read Moren Academy in St. Petersburg, FL. Dr. Costa completed a general practice residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, from 1991 to 1992. From 2000-2004, he was the Chief of the Division of Oral Medicine and Dentistry at BWH and directed the General Practice Residency Program. As an Associate Surgeon from 1993 through 2013, he managed the care of mentally challenged dental patients in the operating room. In the past, Dr. Costa also held a teaching appointment as a Clinical Instructor in the Division of Oral Medicine, Infection and Immunity at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Costa is a member of the American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, and the Massachusetts Dental Society (MDS). He participates in several study clubs, including a Spear Study Club, the New England Masters Study Club and the Parkway Norfolk Study Club. He has both lectured and volunteered at the Yankee Dental Congress. In his spare time, Dr. Costa enjoys spending time with his family, including his wife, his two college-age daughters and his black Labrador. He is an avid Red Sox fan.
