Dr. Kathleen Black DDS
A proud native Texan, Dr. Kathleen Black was born and raised in San Antonio. After graduating from John Jay High School her career in dentistry quickly began. She was accepted into the dental assisting program at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio branch and earned her certification as a dental assistant. Dr. Black knew immediately that dentistry was her true calling and made no hesitation to begin the education that would lead her to her goal. While working as a dental assistant for a general dentist in Pasadena, Texas, she attended San Jacinto College and quickly completed the college prerequisites to apply to dental school. After two years at San Jacinto College, Dr. Black would find herself back home. She applied to and was accepted into the dental program at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. It is here where she earned her Doctor of Dental Science degree in 1997 and became licensed to practice dentistry in Texas.
After spending 3 years working as a general dentist in the Indian Health Service in New Mexico, her Texas roots were calling her back and she returned, this time settling down in Houston.
Dr. Black spent 5 years working as an associate dentist in Houston before finally making the decision to venture out and open her own practice, and in 2005 Neos Smiles, PA was born.
Throughout her career Dr. Black has remained at the forefront of her field, becoming a member of the Greater Houston Dental Society, the Texas Dental Association and the American Dental Association. She continues to stay current with the technology in dentistry, utilizing some of the most advanced equipment and techniques available today. Her philosophy is that everyone in the community should have access to the best treatment dentistry can offer and to educate her patients on the importance of oral health and the importance of seeking out the best dental options possible to meet their individual needs.
Dr. Black is what you would call an adrenaline junkie. If she can jump into it, jump off of it or ride it; fast, she is sure to have “been there done that”. Concerned about health and fitness, she has participated in several triathlons, runs and charity bike rides. She has a deep passion for scuba diving and underwater photography. Her time off is usually spent traveling to a scuba diving destination, taking advantage of being in the water with and photographing some of the world’s most amazing marine life. In her free time at home Dr. Black loves spending time with friends and family. Her children are her 3 rescue dogs, Lola, Ricky and Sunshine, all lab mixes. She has a huge heart for rescuing lost and stray dogs, and has been a foster mom for Corridor Rescue, a local animal rescue organization. If your furry friend has escaped from home, check at Dr. Blacks office, they always seem to find their way there!!
